The Maisie-J
2025
As the sun begins to rise, Lee Allen and Gary Cann set off from St Brelade's bay for another day of fishing along the west coast of the island. Fishing for over 35 years Lee and Gary have a lifetime of knowledge and respect for this particular area. As Lee says ' You have to know all the rocks, sand bars , rips and currents to make a success out here" Lee continues 'There aren't many boats working the bay as it can be extremely difficult and sometimes dangerous" . The Maisie-J on this day was blessed with good weather and Lee and Gary darted backwards and forwards across the bay chasing the tide to maximise their catch of bass and mackerel only to check one line of their pots in the middle of the bay. Lee and Gary fish as much as they can supplying their customers throughout the summer and winter in sometimes appalling weather proving that there is great risk involved to this way of living which is continuingly under external economic pressures.
